Dual or single throttle return springs?
« on: March 14, 2025, 10:48:59 AM »
What setup did GM have or you have? Why use dual springs? I had two on mine, but I removed one of them. I don't recall having one or two before having the motor rebuilt many years ago.

I have 2 on mine unsure if original or not, one on either side pulling. If for what ever reason one fails I still have a throttle return is my thought process. Don't have to be tight just enough to pull.

I converted it to dual springs. Nobody here seems to be able to comment dual or single spring, besides you.

Nobody at all. Welcome to forums.
Different applications, very easy to look up.

I put dual on my car -1979 400- but I am pretty sure I read in the service manual, that particular motor had a single spring. I have seen them both ways.

Yes, it acts as a redundant safety as well as provide a better throttle/progressive response feel.

Just because it came with one (if it did) doesn’t mean that’s the best option, I have one on mine but after reading this, I am adding a second, but then again I could careless about originality in my car.

You mean, you couldn't care less. Dual tension springs often used to prevent stuck open throttles and to keep tension  consistent at either end and throughout the movement.

Haha I work 24/7 around the clock. Sometimes I see a reply to a post and even after reading it, I don't recall posting it, or what I rambling about!

That used to be one of our first performance add ons as a teenager- a lot more tire chirping when you had to mash the throttle for movement!
