At my wits end......
« on: August 09, 2024, 06:27:47 AM »
So my power sterring is going to give me an annurism.  I have replaced the Redhear steering gear twice, a new pump from CVF racing, and new lines from Borgeson.  Still have no power steering.  I have bled everything out twice, and even driven the car, but still nothing.  I am returning the pump to CVK and ordered one from Borgeson, so we will see if that fixes the problem.

I understand your frustration. Wish I could help but I know nothing about this kind of thing. It may be a bad part though. Not at all uncommon today to get a brand new part that is bad. On my 77 I took 3 tries to get a good master cylinder.

Return everything and instead just try stock replacement parts? Just get a re-manned Cardone gear off RockAuto, pump/reservoir and lines off Firebird Central (most of the ones they sell you at parts stores are clocked incorrectly) and be done with it.

What's your bleeding procedure?

That may even be a crapshoot. I ordered one of those a few years ago and couldn’t get that to operate correctly. Oddly, I had similar issues where no matter how much or how many ways I bled I couldn’t get the new gear to operate smoothly. It acted like there was air in the system and PS would randomly drop out. I ended up tearing my original box apart and resealed it and it ended up working just fine. I know that may not be what Dave is trying to accomplish but my point is the reman have potential to be just as problematic

Ya, I have a reman box on my car and it acts weird. Lose, tight, whatever it feels like. Reman is 50/59 at best.

Yeah it's all been weird.  Got a reman pump on sat so hopefully that will solve the issue.  I have heard good reviews (and some bad) on redhead gears, I can't imagine they would be any better or worse than one from Autozone or where ever.  I am going to try and swap it out tonight and see if it makes a difference.

Swapped out PS pump, that was the issue. The “new” one was defective. Works like a charm now.

Me too. What a pain. It’s sad how you just assume now you’re getting a bad part, even when it’s new.
