Battery Cable

So if you don't have the wire tube on the front of your 400 for the positive battery cable, wo you run it?  I have the tube but due to some modifications I might have to remove it, so Iam trying to figure out the best route for the battery cable.

I dont have the tube on my 77, I think it just runs basically in the same area. I would have to look to see exactly where it goes.

Personally, I would not run it without unless you can keep the wires far from the exhaust manifold and exhaust port of the head. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a temperature reading of the tube compared to the exhaust manifold and exhaust port to see how much cooler the tube actually is. I can't see Pontiac or GM spending money on something that was not necessary. The positive battery cable is always hot and is not fused, while the other wire (trigger for the solenoid) is only hot when the key is in the start position and would be protected by the fusible link coming from the alternator.

Even my original 301 came with this tube, I had to slightly bend the bracket to make it work on my new engine.

I got it all situated and was able to keep the tube.  Thanks Guys
