Just when you think you are wasting your time asking the big important questions that matter, or sharing trivia you think will be of interest, just think, there's currently a post on PY forum about the factory position of window winders. Everyone has an opinion and so many claim theirs have never been removed. BS all the way. Even if there was 'correct' way it probably still came down to if the line guy was left or right handed, where he held it and then thumped it on before winding up. And then, wherever the next 50 owners and mechanics decided it was going to go back on before they got it and claim it's still got factory fingerprints on it.

I feel left out. Guy who bought his 70 model in 78, but the doortrims and handles have never been off since new...
If I was on the forum still I'd claim my RHD-converted 78 was factory since it's been that way for the 20 years I've had it. None seem to have resorted to build diagrams yet. Like Facebook, the stupid topics get replies, the serious ones ignored. I seem to recall my seatbelt post about which way the twist went also went ignored haha. Had to resort to many photos to see if my rewebbed seatbelts were the right way. As it turns out, one way to ID Firebird rear belts to other GM, as they mount up not down, opposite anchor, rambling now...

Man, I missed the seatbelt one. I'll have to go look for it now.

That one actually peaks my interest.

Haha I'm not sure if it was even here or deleted, was confusing to explain and I gave up. I think.

Not to get side tracked but with the detail you put into posts Ben I’d honestly like to see you do a write up sometime on that  RHD conversion and what went into it.

I can’t begin to imagine what a project this would be. Did it require an entire firewall replacement? How did you convert the steering gear box? Heater box and AC case. Under dashboard and under hood wiring. Even an abbreviated explanation would be very interesting.

manual window winders point down and forward
roughly where firewall meets floor pan
this was to clear peoples knees
read this a million years ago in an old holden manual

I guess Pontiac and Fisher have their prized-Holden manuals to go by. I think that thread has died down but at no point did it appear anyone actually checked diagrams, just figured half the posters would have cars with original winder positions. My window winders are still original location, centred by spring in a switch.
