Air Extraction Vents
« on: January 10, 2024, 11:18:23 PM »
Has anyone made the fender air extraction vents on a 1979 TA functional (operational) ?

I'm confused. They are functional. Airflow and heat enter via grilles and radiator can then exit via the fender openings. The shape of the vents on the outside are also functional at speed in creating a low pressure point at the rear edge, albeit if extended more, and larger opening, would be more substantial. What are you seeing in yours? Trying to put exhaust out it?!

I just thought they were to keep under hood temps lower and relieve under hood pressure.  I assume they are more beneficial to the 79 and up cars because the air inlet at the front of the car is much less then previous years. Probably help a lot to get air moving across the radiator. I mean, you can feel the heat coming out of them, so ya, they are functional.

Sorry I was not clear.  On my 79 TA the air extractor vents do not appear
to be open all the way through the inner fenders.  I assumed that there would be an opening right into the engine compartment from which the hot engine air is extracted.
y car is in storage for the winter so I don’t have a way to verify this.  I could mistaken.

What Wellington is trying to say is, yes they are directly venting the engine bay.
