Mis-Matched Coil Springs, Which goes where?

Good to be back here after long absence.  I removed coil springs and sent off for a free powder coat.  Got them back, but now do not know which spring goes to which side.  Did not notice the height difference when removing, but it's there, and they obviously are not the same.  Also, one has a flattened coil end (see pic), so must have been replaced at some point. 

The car sat level before removal, so hoping to get them back on the correct side, or I'm afraid will have one side sitting lower/higher than the other.  Any suggestions as to which side I should install the taller spring as well as the shorter spring.

Probably no way to know without trying. I cut mine different too to be level.

Just remember the lower control arm has the spring pocket, hopefully that other is only flattened on one end. It wouldn't hurt also to check that they weren't powdercoating several coil springs that week.

If I had to guess, you got someone else's spring.

In the lower spring pocket there should be 2 holes for drainage.  Be sure the spring doesn't cover those holes.  Also, check the upper spring pockets and see if you notice
some ware mark/marks.  The spring without the flattened or smooth edge may have left a mark.

Interesting,  I would have guessed the driver side to compensate for driver weight. Any idea if the reasoning?

I’m surprised Luke wasn’t right with his first idea. I don’t recall my springs being different height nor different shape (the flat spots I mean). Maybe one side on each had it. Either way they were the same

Removed from my 1974 TA, 455, about 2 years ago. I believe they were original to the car. They both measured 18 inches long. The coil spacing is exactly even. When removed, the car sat level.

79T/Aman, is there rational for the longer one going to the right side?

TinPusher, did both of your springs have the flattened coil on what I presume would the top end of the spring? Trying to determine if the round or flat coil was original to my car.  Since they are different I have to assume one was replaced.

Thanks to all for the comments. I did check the LCA spring pockets, and it looks like they may have been installed upside down, ie flat coil to the bottom because you can sorta make out the wear marks, round indentation on pass side and a flat spot indentation on the driver side (if my detective work is correct). I was unable to discern distinct wear marks on the upper perches.

On the springs that were removed, the upper pocket accepted the flat end of the spring and the LCA accepted the pigtail end. The LCA has two holes drilled through the pocket and the pigtail end divides the two for proper placement.

Both of my stock springs had one flat end (upper). You wouldn’t get the correct orientation if they were flipped.

I replaced mine (stock) with a pair of Ridetech springs,  both ridetech spring ends had pigtails.

My LCA has a very slight rise, so I can understand what you’re saying. The screwdriver end shows where the end of the pigtail sits.
The blue spring is a ridetech one.

The Ridetech only go in one way, the right side on the pic would be up in the pocket.

The longer one has an extra half coil, making it a lower spring rate,

So to comp for the starter, battery and driver weight the shorter spring goes driver side.
