Wiring harness swap
« on: January 07, 2023, 09:59:20 AM »
My friend has a 1976 TA that had a engine fire and destroyed all the wiring from behind the dash forward.
I’m going to help him with the repair and found a 1977 TA dash harness in excellent condition and needed some advice.  Would a 1977 Dash Harness work with a 1976 front headlight wire harness without modification?… going from 2 / 4 lights..
As far as I can tell, the headlight switch should be the same. He has limited funds and the $$$ of a new harness is not a option. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it'll be fine.  The outboard lights act like the lights on a 76.

The A/C on a 76 is vey different, but that's a separate harness.  The blower part of it will still work, I guess.

I did not look to see if any bulkhead pins moved around between 76 and 77.  I would bet not.  I don't personally have a 76 wiring diagram.  So I would suggest you just look at the bulkhead and see if it looks to you like the wires are in the same places and/or if you see an extra one someplace.

You might want to check Franks Pontiac Parts. You might be able to get used harnesses for the '76 in his budget.

I don’t have a 76 manual but I may have a 76 wiring diagram if it would help

I’m taking  whatever everyone is giving. I have a spare AC box and heater core assembly from a 77 TA that I’m giving him along with spare gauges and a dash that needs a little work.
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions, I’m a plug and play electrical guy…….
His fire was at the rear of the engine, so everything attached to the firewall area is toast, inside/outside. I haven’t looked at the wiring on the steering column but I’m praying that is salvageable, if not,  the only thing I’m thinking that would be different is the high beam switch? Does anyone know what year that changed?
