What's in your attic (parts stash)
« on: August 14, 2022, 03:46:50 PM »
So, as I was cleaning my shop I repeatedly took stuff upstairs to my parts stash (or hoarding stash). I thought I would snap a few pictures and let you see a small portion of my disease. There is a lot hiding up there. Probably enough to build 2 more cars.

Luke, looks like a great stash of good stuff to me. Except for maybe the florescent light!

Ya, I have to figure out how to dispose of those.  I replaced them all with LED figures. I also need to organize this place next!

I have waaaay too many car parts strewn about. Any normal person who entered my house would consider me a hoarder. Sure there's quite a bit in the attic , BUT, every room in the house also has a lot of car parts as well as an enclosed 24' trailer that's packed. I've gotta build cars and clear out the parts.

My attic looks about the same.  I'm ashamed to say what all worthless stuff I kept.  I guess 20% of mine is stuff you'd actually want.

Yes, after I built my 79 TA the quality if the remaining parts is not quite 100% but there are some really nice parts left to build 1 and a half nice cars the half car would have some questionable parts on it  :D

Nice and fresh looking attic Luke. Consider yourself lucky it's tall enuff to stand up in, and store that much.....stuff.
Mine is all trusses, which makes installing a dormer to fit my lift, a nightmare. Down stairs ceilings are only 8'.
I think you should have a "garage" sale. (Just to lighten the load up-stairs.)

Some day I plan to take the leftovers to a swap meet (or my kids can rent a dumpster when I'm gone.... My 14 yo son keeps telling me I need to pitch it all now so he won't have to later.... I still have cars to build...

Looks like you should start hitting the swap meets. One mans,...... well you know what, is anothers treasure. There was a thread on another forum about people 'keeping' parts. I too fit into that category but not nearly as much as what you have. If I find a better part than what I have the less than desirable goes on the shelf. I hate to through stuff away but I know I will most likely never use any of it.

My local landfill takes flourescent lights in the recycle bins.

Considering the DeLorean discussion earlier, I thought I’d post this here. Stopped by a local show for a few hours today and right before I had to leave early this rolled in.

Only other T/A I saw was the one pictured which I’ve seen before but nobody is ever by it to chat.

Brian, I see that Delorean all the time at the bike shop in Whitehouse.  Either he works there or likes bikes. I stopped at a house with one sitting outside a few years back and talked to the father of the owner who was an 18 year old kid who just started going to Bowling Green and didn't want to take it to school. They used to live in Alaska and they owned the mineral rights to property there and it had a ton of oil so the kid constantly received large check for the oil (I guess he inherited the land from a grand parent). Anyways, dad tried to talk him out of buying it but couldn't.  He bought it from an exotics shop in Chicago. It may be the same kid who owns the one you saw (they live in Monclova).

I looked again, it is the same one with the black stripe. I think I have a picture of it at the bike shop.

Here it is, you can see the bike rack on the back of it. Pretty sure it's the kid's.

Actually it's a good looking car that aged well and looks modern today.

I dont care what you say, thats one sexy car  :D  Underpowered, yes. But I am one of the few people that doesnt need 800 hp to cruise around town. Theres a decent sized show in the spring in my area and there were 2 of them there. One was owned by a lady a bit younger than myself (then again according to Luke, most people are younger than me,LOL) I tried to strike up a conversation but she was too self absorbed.

There was a kid I went to school with whose mother was a native from Alaska, he would tell us about 'oil checks' that she got. I think at one time the indigenous people whether it was on their property or not received royalties.

I think I know the kid you’re talking about Luke. I used to see that one parked at Fallen Timbers a lot with a Batman sunscreen in the windshield. A coworker of mine stopped and talked to him and told me it was a younger kid.

The only other one I’ve seen belonged to the father-in-law of a former coworker of mine. They used to drive it to the Halloween parade in Haskins and would dress up as Doc and Marty.

My only complaint about one of these cars would be the windows. Gotta drive with the windows down. Otherwise yea, underpowered doesn’t bother me and they really are cool looking cars.

I agree a DeLorean is still a good looking car today, that will never be mistaken for anything else. I also like the unpainted stainless look.

Going back to what’s sitting in Luke”s attic. I noticed an early 70’s front bumper, a 77-78 bumper and a 79-81 bumper. If I had them sitting in my garage I would be tempted to copy what megajam did hanging on his garage wall. Cleaned up an painted of course. Maybe even install grills and lights.

That was the plan (including the delorean front) but that turned unto too many and it would give a cluttered look. I really couldn't choose just one to hang... that 70 bumper was hit on one side and could only be used as a wall hanger. The reason I bought it.
