400 to 383 swap fitment issues
« on: June 11, 2022, 07:33:24 PM »
ftp://
I installed a sbc 383 stroker in my 77 TA. The 400 engine was shot.
Does anyone know what air cleaner base and scoop will work with the 383?
I have a Edelbrock performer rpm intake, Edelbrock carb with 1” spacer between carb and intake.
I can test fit the hood once I get it, but it looks like it’s sitting too high right now.
Any help is much appreciated!!

plckidd,

Are the fenders installed?  If so run a 2x4 or something across to get a estimate of how much additional clearance you have/need.

You could remover the spacer unless it's required to allow bolting of your carb. There's also 1" and 2" drop bases you can get. That's what I'm using since I didn't have enough hood clearance.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Allstar-Performance-ALL25941-Air-Cleaner/dp/B00JQW48YW/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=drop+base+air+cleaner&qid=1655174423&sprefix=drop+base%2Caps%2C71&sr=8-7

You will need to shorten the threaded rod that holds down the air cleaner to the carb.  You can buy 1/4" stock at the store for real cheap. Bring your rod to make sure you get the right thread.

Add a cowl hood like every other Camaro owner. But with a custom touch, add a shaker to it also lol.
