As long as the backdrive linkage is disconnected, which it would be with a trans swap, you can technically leave it alone. My 77 is factory auto to 4 speed swapped. I left the neutral safety alone and leave the column in the “park” position and there are no issues. Granted, the car will start with it in gear and the clutch out which some may not like.
You could also unplug the wire from the switch and put a jumper between both terminals to completely eliminate the switch.
And lastly, you could hook up the wires to a clutch safety switch like factory 4 speeds had to prevent the car from starting with the clutch out.
