Basic oil change question
« on: February 05, 2022, 10:29:30 AM »
Hi - as many of you know I have a 6.2L LS3 swap in my 77T/A.  I changed the oil and oil filter this past weekend and just wanted to be doubly sure I’m using the right amount of oil.

The oil pan is from a 1998-2002 F body which has 5.5 quarts oil capacity.  I’m assuming that I should use 5.5 quarts of oil?  I’ve seen some posts on the web mentioning to add another half quart for the lines and filter but the 2000 Z28 owner’s manual also says 5.5.

The dipstick looks to show the oil is at the right level but it’s a Lokar flexible dipstick that I’m not totally confident in its accuracy.

Thanks
Darryl

If the pan is a 98-02 car and says capacity is 5.5 quarts. That does not include the oil filter.

Thanks.  Assume another half quart for the oil filter?

Don't forget to prime the oil filter.  This will reduce the time the engine is running without oil pressure the first time you start it after the change.
