Internal Hood Release
« on: September 06, 2022, 01:50:15 PM »
Wondering if anyone has ever done an internal hood release for a 70-72?  Thinking for security reasons to move it inside the car.  Then again, having it external might defeat most would be criminals since they wouldn't know how to open the hood anyway.  I might just come up with a bike lock or similar mechanism to keep would be thief's from being able to open the hood enough to steal anything.  Shaker is my biggest worry, because it would be so easy for someone to walk away with it.

I am sure something could be rigged up for an internal hood release.

I don't want to scare you, but I wouldn't let this car sit unattended. It's too rare and hard to replace. While the majority of people in this world are good and law abiding, there are still many with ill intent. You should drive and enjoy this car. Take it to cruise nights, car shows and even out to a restaurant. Just don't leave it some place where you or a trusted individual can keep an eye on it.

Maybe I am a little paranoid. I hope I haven't ruined your day.  This is just me talking.

I know I'm going to be extremely paranoid whenever I take it anywhere.  But if you can't enjoy it then why own it.  Also, that's what insurance is for.  Not that I'd be stupid with it, but just saying.

Internal hood lock was an original option, once offered repro but cheaply. One or two guys on here in the past did conversions and improved upgrades using the parts. Likely on other forums now if you search for it. Or you use something like the old Cal-custom-hawk kits.

Here's one.

The internal hood release itself is problematic as the catch assembly is a two-step pull setup and can't be done from inside cabin unless you have a friend. So the lock was the next best thing to interrupting the catch from operating.
