Trans Am Fuel Door (2nd Generation)
« on: February 21, 2022, 11:03:37 AM »
Hello, i noticed something on the Trans Am's from the late 70's early 80's.
They don’t all have the same fuel doors.
One has the Phoenix molded into it and the other one does not.
Was this an option that you had to pay for or was it for the SE cars?
What year was it available?

If I remember correctly, the fuel door bird was standard on all 1981's. I don't think it was on any 1980 models.

1973 T/A 455
1975 T/A 400

5th T/A is correct.  Only the 1981's had the bird on the fuel door.

Not sure I've ever visited the project section, except for projects.

Random trivia, with the bird logo on fuel door in 81, those models that previously had a bird decal on rear spoiler got nothing, or model lettering. Otherwise, end up looking like a silly Merc with a large and small matching logo next to each other. The emblem changed from Silver to Gold on SE models. Fuel door shown is the blackened smoke version of Formula and TA, base Firebird and Esprit were still red lens.
