Inner Fender Install question
« on: April 01, 2021, 03:38:05 PM »
I can't find any good pics for reference, so is my gap between the liner and the frame ok? I wasn't sure how it is supposed to look.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, Im relieved. I had to pretty much guess how to assemble everything. When I took it all apart I took few pictures because I assumed the forum would bw all I need. I won't make that mistake again. I guess the moral of the story is...  "there is no such thing as too many pictures".

Thanks!
I was also curious, am I supposed to have those rubber "curtains" you sometimes see? It doesn't appear to have those staple holes or anything?

Not mandatory but nice to have, especially for a really clean car like yours.

You can make some pretty easily from sheets of rubber material, rivet /screw/plastic push pin to the inner fender.

Yeah, I saw AMES has them. I could use some seam sealant possibly. Hmmm...

I remember hearing that the inner fender rubbing on the frame caused a lot of complaints of an intermittent squeek. At the time the fix was bending the inner fender panel away from the frame....Warranty Work = Quick and Dirty, you know the proper fix would be way to costly....so I think you are good to go.....

The curtains help with the the squeaks and such, I would install them as I think the bay looks empty without them.

Early 2nd gens had the splash guards. I think they probably do reduce the noise slightly by dampening the inner fender.

If the inner fender touches the frame it will leave witness marks (shown below) and can squeak/rattle etc.   It can occur when sub frame bushings are worn or half height bushings are used.

Appreciate it guys. I have never put one of these together. Done other cars tho. Im assuming when the fenders go on i can get the gaps a bit closer and make needed adjustments. Got the master hardware kit so i dont have tp fight with the home depot stuff the previous owner had assembled the whole car with.
