Title: brake pedal to booster rod attachment
Post by: jk79ta on September 09, 2021, 09:01:20 AM
My car currently has the brake pedal attached to the booster rod with a bolt and nut. I found the pin and retainer that is suppose to connect the two, I think, and that pin won't fit through the hole. No idea how my son removed it and he doesn't remember. Can someone tell me how to get it back in there. I'm worried that bolt and nut setup isn't safe. Also, the rod is on the right side of the pedal rod, is that right? Looks like it should be on the left.

Could be a Camaro booster if it connects to pedal with threaded tail rod instead of looped for pin in pedal.

Pardon the rough pics but this should give you the point. The yellow pencil represents the brake connection rod that goes through the booster rod that goes through the firewall. There is a retaining clip that attaches to the brake rod (yellow pencil). It kinda slips over and locks into place. Pictured are an old clip I had on the bench.

Thanks guys. The booster is correct, rod has a hole in the end. My problem is that small rod/pin that goes through the booster rod and connects it to the brake pedal won't go through the hole. Can't for the life of me figure out how to get it through there. My son took it out years ago but he doesn't remember how he got it out. Also, pretty sure the booster rod is on the wrong side of the brake pedal, but don't think that should be the issue. Just seems like the hole is too small for that pin. Should that thing be so tight?

The brake pedal simply lifts up and over the rod, you could put it on either side depending on which way the pin is pressed into the pedal. It should be a snug fit, but not too tight, it still needs to pivot freely. The retainer simply stops the rod falling off the end, so that's how tight it is.

There's no trick to it, something must be not quite right. Able to get a pic?
