Title: FOOD
Post by: roadking77 on April 05, 2021, 08:08:17 AM
Another restart. I know there was an item about cooking, but I figured I will broaden it up a bit and just call it Food. I will start with one of my favorites, a local favorite from the Chesapeake Bay

1llb. of all lump blue crab meat, a couple slices of bread broken up as a binder, and egg, mustard, a bit of mayo, parsley flakes, and Old Bay seasoning.

These were broiled in the oven for a few minutes but you can fry them in a skillet with a bit of oil too. For those that have not had a REAL MD crabcake, you dont know what youre missing

Blue crab used to be the workings man summer staple. Many a hillbilly crab feast in the backyard, brown paper on the picnic table and a case of blue ribbon or Natty Bo.  Now they are a treat for the rich and famous . Prices have gotten completely ridiculous. Well over $100 for a dozen, when I was a younger man you could get a bushel for $25.  The crab meat I used in the above cakes was on sale at $32 a lb. I usually can get 6 (in this case I stretched to 7) cakes per pound, which at a restaurant a good cake will be $20-$25, so although expensive much cheaper to make at home. Only problem is I only splurge on them a couple times of year.

I agree, it is/was the same for lobster, another shell seafood that I don't care for... Actually I am not a fan of seafood at all but my wife loves it, but she can't stand Asian food and I love Chines food. So we don't ever eat seafood or Chines.

Jack, Pop was in the Marines early 50's, took a troop ship across the Pacific to Japan for a year. The entire time he said that the diet was mostly seafood. He never ate seafood again!

Kerry and Mike will appreciate this. I just came home and this was dinner, I was stuffed but could not resist home made chili and biscuits.

I havent had a decent dinner in weeks, I am super hungry now  All of that stuff looks delicious!
My wife is on a perpetual diet, so she snacks healthy bites all day and does not eat dinner. I will put something together for my 8yo but most time dont feel like spending an hour for prep and cooking to consume in 5 minutes. I dont mind if others are eating but too much work for myself. We did have some really good grilled/smoked ribs a couple of weeks and I smoked a turkey breast.

And I'm going to Luke's place this weekend, if he's grilling like that

I took some of Kerry's input on the rib recipe. My family really lives them. Tons of brown sugar, little bit regular sugar garlic and onion powder and a few other spices. They fall off the bone every time

I posted this on facebook, and a lot of you all know me there;  While my wife was outta town I made a mincemeat pie.  I didn't get one at Christmas.   I like them, and nobody else does, so I get to eat of lot of it.  I even froze some of it.  It was going to take me a long time to eat the whole thing.   Anyway it was delicious.

Here's the recipe I'm using
