Title: 79' - oem rear speakers
Post by: jvmagic on March 25, 2021, 03:57:08 PM
Hi,

My 79' needs rear speakers.  I'd like to install the oem-like covers and add speakers. Would like advise on what, where, to purchase.

Thanks in advance,

~JV

Used only on the covers, getting harder to get. A flat top cover will also decide the type of speaker that mounts flush, but also doesn't sit too low under the tray to contact spare wheels or jacks. And, if you still have factory 10 ohm stereo up front or 4 ohm replacement.
Just an example, if still available, I used Alpine SPR-69 rear speakers under stock covers.

Am I missing something,  the rear speakers in my 79 are mounted under the deck and the rear deck cover is perforated to allow for the sound, everything is hidden. I dont think the speaker themselves have a cover.

TATA?

Used the rear board with speaker holes built in and top mesh.

Exactly the like the car in the link you posted. I thought they all came that way.

Just TATA and maybe Turbo Pace cars? The rest are coloured smooth board and metal speaker grilles, no mesh fabric covering. Earlier years may have had a different grille shape, GM had a few at the time, but standard in Firebird in later 70's as shown in link.
