Title: 75 Trans Am - Rear Axle Code PT
Post by: Pontiac Dreamer on April 15, 2019, 12:22:20 PM
Needing a bit of help figuring out my rear axle on my Trans Am I just bought.  Axle Code is PT, which looks to be a 2.56 Posi unit.  However, there is a silver tag attached to one of the diff cover bolts that says to to use limited slip oil only. Without opening up the rear end, how do I know for sure?

Thanks!
Rob

Not sure what the issue is, posi and limited slip are the same thing. It’s more likely a safe-T-track Pontiacs name for limited slip.

Thanks - I should refrain from asking questions on a Monday. For reason I had it in my head that they weren't the same thing. When I re-read my question just now, I just called myself a dumb-ass.   Thanks for the response though!!

No problem, I’m a ford guy and it always confuses me that they use codes on the housing and then put a tag when they could have put all the info on the tag.
