Title: Paint Lines
Post by: roadking77 on March 18, 2019, 07:36:14 AM
To all TATA owners, I need a couple of dimensions in prep for a paint job. Looking for the distance from the edge of the b pillar to the centre of the stripe, and from the back edge of the t top cut out on the roof to the centre of the stripe.

I may be able to dig those up, but where are you getting your decals?  If you use Phoenix Graphics, the set comes with the dimensions and a guide.

Thank You. I was able to get the answer I needed. I will use PG, but I dont have them yet and needed the measurement to paint. BUT, can you tell me if the power antennae sits flush when off or if it sticks out a slight bit. I have found replacements from Ecklers corvette and they show one of each. Mine is sticking out just a bit, I assumed it was broke.

It should be flush with the bezel or slightly below.  Not sure of the fit on the repop ones.  Originals are scarce but they pop up from time to time  There was one at the TA Nationals a couple years ago.  The same antennae was used on Cadillac at the time.

Check out Antennae Masts R Us.    https://www.theantennasource.com/PONTIAC/FIREBIRD/Firebird%201979.html      I haven't done business with them, but I did call and talk to them at one point.  They currently have new cables in stock which MAY be your problem with the one that is sticking up.  Bench test the motor and if it works the cable may just need to be replaced.

Thanks for the link. I haven't gotten around to bench testing yet, its on my to do list. Biggest problem is the top bezel/nut part is crapped up. Not sure if its stripped threads or what. It may be repairable. I know they are not available and have been kinda looking for a replacement. The ones on Ecklers corvette site look very similar.

I have the antenna fender bezels.  The antenna when retracted sits in the bezel.  To not screw it up - you need the GM bezel tool.  That you have to find own your own.

Everything I have is GM / DELCO used or broken NOS antennas.  They make a decent aftermarket that is perfect copy and should be fine.  Just put the correct bezel on it and be done.  If you need parts, PM and will sell some.  I have motors, inner masts, cables and everything related to them.  I used to rebuild them and some of you know we bought out a delco radio parts shop probably nearly 15 year ago.  With my current job - don't get to do these anymore.
