Title: Who else is doing the p90x?
Post by: collects t/a's on October 12, 2009, 07:06:35 PM
After hearing about and seeing the results of some of my friends doing this workout system I decided to order it for myself being that I could use to lose about 20-30lbs(or more) I received the workout program in the mail roughly 3 weeks ago and figured I would start it the following monday, then my mother-in-law came into town for a week so I didn't start it then. Last week I was working late as I am extremely behind on my work so I didn't start it then either. ............  :???:

Today, I changed all that and started it. THIS THING IS INTENSE!! I can see how the results are going to be very quick for anybody if they stick to it.

I am currently tipping the scales at 194lbs and I will update the progress weekly as I am planning to do it daily. My goal is to fit into the same size jeans I wore in highschool, hopefully by newyears I will have accomplished this.

Who else is doing this program out in TAC land?  :-D

I'm about halfway through with week 3 now.

When I started I was a tight 38 waist (I had lost some weight before I started), weighed 245, couldn't do one real push up, and looked out of shape.

Now I'm a loose 38, weigh 239, am looking a ton better, and I did 20 real pushups the other night. After only 2.5 weeks!

I am amazed so far, can't wait to see what I look and feel like at 30/60/90 days!

I did the yoga today, it was really cool and fun. The 90 minutes passed quickly and I feel great!

I really need to get my wife and I some of those yoga blocks though.

You need to improvise! I've used everything from my son's toy Fireturck to an empty coffee container.

Last night I did Shoulders & Arms for the first time with dumbells. I had been using bands, but I didn't feel like I was getting enough of a workout. My arms feel all rubbery today.

Tonight is Yoga, I enjoy it too!

I always thought yoga was easy and for girls, then I tried it on the Wii Fit.

darn near killed myself.

Am now of the opinion that yoga is tough.

Did another workout today, I wish I had started this sooner. My wife and I are already feeling like we have more energy during the day, and we both look forward to the workout in the evenings!  :-D

.......... oh yeah, I purchased the yoga blocks and correct push up bars this morning, bring it on!

Down to 192.6lbs.  :D

Have you guys been able to do the Crane in the Yoga X yet?

I did it last night for like 3 seconds, so I'm getting there. My wife can do it for like 30 seconds, but being 6'4" and 240 I'm a little more awkward.

Tonight is legs and back, my least favorite one.

I'm using resistance bands attached to the door frame. I know I'm not getting as good of a workout this way, but it's the best I can do.

I think I just found out how bad out of shape my abs are

I popped in the abx video and thought "ah, its not too long" ....... well it wasn't all that long but it was packed with a big 'ol kick in the butt!

It doesn't get any easier, either! Those exercises are rough!

I've gotten to the point where I can do 10 of the V-up/Roll-ups, so I'm happy with that. Still can't do all 50 of the Mason Twists though.

I feel good today. I'm wearing a new shirt my wife bought me, my new 38" waist jeans that are getting loose, and a jacket that I bought a few years ago that I haven;t been able to wear before without sucking in.   This morning when I was dropping my son off at preschool one of the moms was checking me out. I know my wife has been noticing, but it makes me feel good to know that's not just because I'm not so jumbo anymore.

This morning when I was dropping my son off at preschool one of the moms was checking me out.

Just be careful Bryan, the original reason I had purchased the p90x was because I seen the results that this particular workout system was having on a friend of mine(Mike). Mike wasn't ever really "fat" so to speak, he just had a really big gut. Anyway, after seeing him in church one day I didn't recognize him(no gut)   ........ I asked him what he was doing and that is when I found out about the p90x system. ................. Anyway, long story short, I found out through another friend(Mikes business partner) that Mikes wife had ordered the system for herself and had been doing it and the results were outstanding for her so she kept dropping hints to Mike that he needed to start doing it to get rid of his gut, after many hints he started working out too, though maybe too late as she had already started to be "noticed" by some younger guys(she is around 40) and I guess that went to her head so they are currently split up right now.

You can see how the results can be both good and bad as the lust of the flesh is still built into all of us.

No worries there, man. I never have been and never will be that kind of guy, I'm happily married and will always be.

You hear about this stuff all the time, makes me sad. People go out and get in shape trying to better themselves and then do something that puts them back further than they were before. I'm doing this so I can live longer for my wife and son, not so I can lose my wife and son!

Besides, even if I wanted to, I wouldn't have the time for it.

I like the system when  my wife and I started it, but life got in the way with school and work kicking ,my butt!  We are planning on starting back up again on Monday.  Are you guys doing the eating plan? If so, how is that working out for you?

It would be hard to make the time to do the workout if I didn't work for myself, I just hit the door running at 5:30 so I can come home and just start working out. After having 2 kids, my wife is determined to lose the extra weight that she had put on, so we push each other.

I personally have not done the eating plan, I just started to stay away from junk food like cokes, cookies and especially overeating. I plan on following everthing to a T if the results are too slow, however, so far so good for me.  :-)

Which plan are you doing? My sheet says I'm not supposed to do that one till the 5th week.

I just finished week three last night. I went down 6 lbs, but I've put 2 back on since then. I think I'm starting to build muscle.

Back to day 1 of the correct program.

I was just randomly throwing videos in every day, man I am glad they go somewhat easy on us at the beginning. Now I know whats ahead for me and hopefully by that time I will be more prepared to do the workouts.

I'm thinking about getting this, how much room do you need to do the workout?  I also assume I would need the door jam pull-up bar? Also, where did you guys purchase the program, from what store?
Title: Re: Who else is doing the p90x?
Post by: Birdman on October 20, 2009, 09:15:25 AM
I go it in my living room with my son's train table in the way, so you really don't need much room at all. You can either use the jamb pull up bar or resistance bands on the door frame.

I would recommend this to anybody Rich, it is awesome!! My wife, daughter and I do it all together and all 3 of us don't use much room. As far as the pull up bar, I took Bryans advice and decided to use the resistance bands as you can purchase them in a variety of resistance levels. I'll post a pic up of what I use and how I improvised instead of trying to find a door jamb to hang the bands on.

Their customer service number is 1-800-818-5174 or go to Beachbody.com. I believe I paid around $139 for the video program with shipping, but I can check to see for sure if you want me to.  :-)

I think everybody loves food, that is part of Americas problem.

I purchased the program so I can have more energy, be healthier, and because I got tired of looking at that spare tire that I have. I had a six pack of abs up until I was around 25 and now I want them back so it will be much easier to tie my shoes in the morning.

I'm down 9lbs now, I'm 7lbs from my target weight. I said I wanted to hit 230 by my 30th birthday (Nov. 11th) so it looks like a reality.

I'm really hoping now I can hit 220-225 by Christmas.

Well, add one more to the list.  Looks like the wife and I are going to start this program.  Just got done putting together the list of things needed for the program...

P90X
Dumb bells
Pull-up/Push Bar
Yoga Mat
Sturdy Chair
Heart Rate Monitor (optional)

We will probably get started sometime next week, as soon as everything arrives.

Did the X Stretch last night, finally one that I didn't kill myself doing.

I'm amazed how much stronger I feel. On Saturday my neighbor asked me to help him unload some stuff from a Uhaul into their house. He's in his late 50s, very out of shape. As we carried the furniture and he was huffing and puffing, I was literally thinking to myself that I could easily carry it by myself. He was almost dead afterwards and I didn't even break a sweat.

First month is done. I'll post my 30 day pics tonight.

I cleaned out my closet last night, half of my pants are too big to wear anymore. The best part was I grabbed a pair of suit pants from a suit my grandfather gave me for my high school graduation, and they fit me loosely! I "outgrew" those parts early in my freshman year of college.

I'm down 10 lbs now. My goal is to hit 230 by the time I turn 30. My birthday is Nov. 11th and I am at 235 now. 5 more pounds!

I'm doing almost the same as Bryan, except I busted out my Jack Lalane(spelling?) juicer for making and drinking healthier drinks. It is fun to throw apples, oranges, strrawberries, blueberries etc. in there, and you would be amazed at just how good it tastes(as long as you don't throw celery in there,YUK!)  :???:

I also have been making my Pat Robertson shakes in the mornings as a substitute for breakfast, they are amazingly good. It had been more than two years since I made me some and I forgot how good they were.  I can post up the ingredients for those shakes if anybody out there wants a copy.

Hey guys, I just picked up the P90X program today, along with some gym quality floor mats and some PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells. All I'm waiting for now is the pull up bar, the push up handle things, the yoga blocks and for my wife to clean up some junk in the basement to setup our workout area. My wife will be doing the program as well. I'm really looking forward to starting the program and reporting back here. Wish me luck. From what I've been reading here I think I'm going to need it, LOL!

Thanks! I will definitely report back daily once I get started. I'll be looking over everything while I'm waiting for the rest of the stuff to arrive. I suspect by the end of the week I'll have everything together and setup. If that's the case I'll most likely start next Monday. If the plyometrics in this course are anything like the plyometrics my evil football coach made us do in highschool then I'm really in for it, LOL!

I have a feeling these plyos will make your football coach look like a pansy.

I just got finished doing them. I'm pretty sure my heart hit my lower intestine and bruised it.

We have all the stuff now but we've decided that it might be a bit too intense for us so we've opted to go with a lower level system we bought through our business.  We're going to do that for a bit and then transition over to the p90x system.  Probably will hit it the first of the year.  I'll keep ya posted and good job guys in sticking with it.

Yeah, keep us updated! The big thing is that you are exercising, doesn't matter what program you are doing!

Oh, and word to the wise on the P90X. If you eat a big Italian dinner, even if it is 3 hours before P90X, it will come back to haunt you.

Never worked myself to the point of vomiting, but I was only one sausage away from blowing last night after working out.

Oh man, I hate the legs and back one. I did that last night, I feel rough today.

Looks like I didn't make it to 230 by tomorrow. I'm at 234 now, that might be pretty tough to do.

No worries though, I am in the best shape of my life and feel great!

225 by Christmas, that is my goal now!

It's kinda deceiving because I am still at the same weight of 192lbs, however, I have had to move my belt one notch tighter in order to keep my pants from saggin down on me, so my waist is definately shrinking.  :???:

Yeah, you definitely build a lot of muscle. I've only lost 1-2lbs in the last 2 weeks or so, but I need to buy a new belt because it no longer functions as a belt. I made a new hole, but now that is too big, too!

The wife and I have started our "diet" and work out program.  Less intense as the P90X but we are hoping to be ready for the P90X by the first of the year.  Once progress has been obtained I'll create a new thread to show progress.

Glad things are going well for you guys!

This is really great, so cool we are all getting in shape and keeping each other motivated. We truly are a family.

Last night my wife found a picture from a few years back and brought it to show me. I weighed about 285 lbs at that point and I was HUGE. I'm down to 234 now, so I'm down 50lbs from that point.

I've had ankle problems since I tore it up in high school, and I've had back problems for the last 5 years. My ankle used to hurt when I walked a lot, and in the mornings I could barely walk on it. My back always hurt, getting in and out of the truck, benging down for something, picking up my son, etc. Now my ankle only hurts when I overwork it running/exercising (which is rarely, and then gets better after an hour of resting it) and my back does not hurt EVER. Every now and then it gives me a quick reminder that it is still there, but goes away as quick as it came on. I can sleep better, I feel more comfortable when I drive/sit/walk, and I feel more confident.

I will NEVER let myself get back to my old ways. We must keep each other motivated!

Where did you buy the program from, and how long does it take to do each night?
Title: Re: Who else is doing the p90x?

It varies per night. Three nights are 1:15, two nights are an hour, and one night is 1:30.

Where is the best place to buy it?

I found it for $119 at Extreme Body Workout (http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/p90x.php). It's the cheapest I could find. They also sell all the related gear for the same price as Beach Body does. Their shipping was super fast too!

I just stumbled across this post.  Congrats on all of you doing this workout.  I'm on my final recovery week.  Today is cardio and tomorrow is yoga and then done for my first 90 days.  I bought Insanity, but I think I'm going to do another 90 days of P90X.  I feel great and look forward to every workout.  Tony Horton and the Beachbody Team did a great job with this and anyone wanting to tone up and just feel better, should give it a try.

One place you guys can look for a lower price is Craigslist.  Make sure you get as complete a package as possible.  You'd be lost without the calendar.  I've seen NIB complete sets going for around $60.

I bought bands and Bowflex Selectech dumbells.  The bands have been retired in favor of a pull up bar that a friend loaned me.  I now use a band for only the corn cobb pull up.  I'd recommend the Selectechs to anyone over the bands....they are super convenient and give muuuch better results than the bands.

I was a very flabby 210 and now I'm a leaner more toned 190-192.  I don't follow the beachbody diet, other than I don't drink anything but water.  I read here and there, but not this whole thread...for the guy that didn't like Legs and Back...you gotta love Sophia in that vid....she's hot!

Namaste!

The yoga does take some getting used to, but I agree it is very good for your overall flexibility. I know I can kick higher now when I do the kenpox video than I could when I started this. I also noticed that my overall posture is better now too, it is an amazing workout video program.  :-D

I just found this thread, and read it. Last week my wife showed me this on a website. So, now after reading we just ordered it. It is going to be our new family activity. We have mountain bikes that were riding in the spring and summer, and we plan on riding them again soon. This will be an a$$ kicking experience from what I have read, but worth it as well. Wish me luck. I need to lose about 100 pounds. I will post pics of shamu before and after as I go along. I think it is great that you guys are encouraging each other, as it helps to motivate each other.

Title: Re: Who else is doing the p90x?
Post by: thefirebirdman on December 05, 2009, 10:15:37 PM
My wife ordered the original P90 a few months ago. She did it for about 3 weeks and then I joined in and did it another 2 weeks with her but I live in Texas and work in South Carolina so I'm not here most of the time during the week. Almost always back on the weekends. I don't know if I really lost any weight but I did feel better. Felt toner and more fit and that was just from doing it for a couple of weeks. Plus she was trying to follow the plan and then when I got involved we kind of ad lib'd which probably wasn't optimal.

So I've been thinking of having her order P90X and then making a copy of all the DVDs so I can take it with me on the road. That way we can both do the plan the way its supposed to be done whether I'm home or not. We already have the stress bands and dumbbells here and I could purchase a few things in SC easy enough. I've been thinking about this for weeks and reading this post really makes me want to go through with it. I'd like to try and follow the nutrition plan as much as possible too since what I eat is completely up to me when I am away from home.

I am the heaviest I've ever been at my life at 205lbs. I'm only 5'4" and I think my ideal weight is supposed to be 140lbs or something. I have been weightlifting on and off my whole life, esp when I was in the military so I'd just like to get back down to the 160s or 170s. Will keep you guys posted on what we do. For the one guy that mentioned it, I was thinking about doing Insanity too. One thing I like about it is, no equipment to buy. Just concerned it may be too much for us so we'll probably do P90X once or twice and then maybe try it.

Just started week four (recovery week). All I can say is WOW! I've never felt stronger in my life! I've lifted weights quite a bit over the years, but I was always "loose in the cage" as they put it in one of the videos. No longer! Best shape of my life at 42 years old and I'm only in week four! My wife and I are doing it together. She early in the AM and myself when I get home from work. Works out perfectly. Thanks to my wife, we're both following the P90X diet pretty diligently. So far I've only lost 8 lbs (185-177), but I've dropped 5% body fat (24-19%) and I've dropped 2" from my waist (36-34").

I'm nursing a little bit of a shoulder injury right now. It's a nagging thing I've had since I was in my 20's and yoga made it rear it's ugly head once again. I will not stop this program unless my arm is falling off! Anything less sounds like an excuse to myself when I say it. I do whatever exercises I can that don't aggravate it too much. The upright row is out, but I can do all the other shoulder exercises. Some of the yoga moves bother it quite a bit, but I still do what I can. I'm going to a sports medicine dr. next week to have it looked at and possibly get a cortizone shot so that I can continue the program, assuming that the MRI doesn't show any significant damage.

I have the same problem with a nagging ankle injury from high school. During the plyo workout it fires up, but I push through. By the end it is killing me, but an hour later it is gone. Not terribly worried about it.

Tonight I start week 8, my 2nd month recovery week.

My in-laws bought me some new workout shirts for Christmas. They were LARGES! I haven't worn a large since my junior year of high school.

UGH!
ab ripper x - unimaginable pain.

i have to admit i was not able to do a couple of the excercises, but i will.
i am in pain, but even though it hurts, it feels good in a weird way. I can hardly lift my arms after the arms and chest workout.
at least i am not alone. my whole family is doing it.

day two tomorrow.. woo hoo.......

Just getting started myself.  It was pretty hard and sobering to see the numbers and look at the photos.  Guess you see what you want to see and things easily get worse little by little.  I do want to thank all those who have posted in this thread.  It has been the kick in the butt I needed to get me started.  I haven't seen it yet on this thread but I am planning to post the pre day 1 pics and then post them every 30 days somewhat like they recommend for us to track our own progress.  Anyone else have pics to document the success they have been seeing (or at least the numbers from the test like chest, waist...)?

Congrats on getting started, I thank all of those that have contributed to this thread too, it has been a real encouragement for my wife and I, and has also given us a good kick in the butt as well to push harder when we are working out.  :-)

My wife and I both took before pics of each other before we started too, unfortunately I doubt I will want to post any until I am at the weight and size that I am striving for. My wife and I both have been seeing slow and steady progress in our waist sizes, so it is very exciting for us both, I can't wait until monday rolls around.  :-D

We are getting ready to do the day 2 stuff, and I am going to be totally honest, I did most of the 1st day workout. but i did very small numbers. I did not want to push myself too hard, as I knew that what ever i did would be painful the next day. I tried to do 5 of everything. I have not been working out as long as the "pros" on the dvd have. lol. I figure that by week three of this stuff, i should be able to make some small gains, and being a realist, am not thinking any more positively than that. If I can do three more of each by then, I will be very happy. Remember what he says, "quality over quantity." That is what I am striving for as well. Thats my little update for now, will post again later tonight after the day 2 plyometrics. happy new years eve!
Title: Re: Who else is doing the p90x?

day 2 plyometrics was a butt kicker. seriously, i am that out of shape.  i think i only did half of the workout. it is brutal.
yesterday was shoulders arms, and the ab ripper x, i did the shoulder/ arms with out ANY problems, the ab ripper x while still difficult, was more manageable this time. today is yoga x, i am sure that it will be difficult as my body does not stretch much. i guess it will now.

I know i seem to be negative about these workouts and the pain they cause, but truthfully, even though my muscles are VERY SORE, I feel better. I do not know if it is psychological or not, but I do feel a lot better, even though it is the middle of week one.
I can tell you guys this, there were a couple of times that we almost took the day off so to speak, but we are sticking to it. that is the good thing about doing this with others, my family's support is amazing. I am so proud of everyones effort. I am sure that we will not miss a day, as this is part of our new years resolution. we are making a lifestyle change. I challenge all of you who have started the P90X to keep going with it. And anyone who has not tried it yet, If you want to make a change in your lifestyle for the better, check it out. You think that you are in shape, and you may be, but these dvd's will show you the truth. lol.
Good luck guys!!!!! keep up the hard work!!!!! and may you prosper in 2010.

Workout pain, which is usually the worst for about 2 weeks after starting a workout regimen, is something that I hate and look forward to at the same time. After the first two weeks, the soreness is something that you start to actually enjoy. It lets you know that you're alive. The best bet if you're just starting a workout program, or returning to one after a significant lay off, is to just take it easy for the first two weeks so that you can still function in your daily activities. Then after that, you can "bring it"!

You'll also notice the soreness from each workout will peak two days after the workout and then fade off. That's the beauty of this program. Each one of the workouts perfectly dovetails with the previous workout. Just when you think you couldn't get more sore, you get Yoga, which is VERY difficult, but really helps tie everything together. Then, just when you can't take it anymore, you get "stretch X"! Once you get to the first "recovery" week, you'll begin to notice that the post workout soreness only lasts for a fraction of the time it did before no matter how hard you "bring it"! Then you'll just start to feel like a beast!

I really love that in the videos, Tony makes it a point to tell people to just do what you can do, making sure that you care more about form than the number of reps or trying, in vain, to keep up with the freaks on the videos.

I have to agree they Plyometrics was tough but it got me to thinking...I didn't really pass all of the prerequisite tests and that may lend some reasoning as to why I am having issues with some of the workouts but not others.  Did anyone pass all of the pre-tests?  I had troubles with sitting in a non-existant chair against a wall for the alotted time and 2 solid minutes of jumping jacks.  So far I have been able to do most of the workouts (still only on day 2) but notice I can't quite keep up with the instructors.  I figure this will come with time as long as I keep pushing myself.

I notice that I already have more energy for the rest of the day and plan to keep with my new year's resolution which was to invest 90 days in myself.  In fact, when it gets tough I say that out loud to keep me on track with the exercise I am currently on.

I also have to agree and will post pics and numbers AFTER the 90 days are up.  No sense scaring everyone away with only a before pic.

Just realized I cheated myself out of the ab ripper portion for day 1.  I was able to correct that on day 3 though.  My whole body is sore but I find myself wanting more.  I'm thinking about adding a run to the workouts.  Let's see if I can just keep this up when I have to go back to work tomorrow....Let's hope.

It was hard for me with the holidays. I was out of town a lot, so I had a couple of gaps. Now that it is all said and done, I'm going to finish out this week and stay hard on it for the last 30 days!

Personally, my wife and I are sure we are going to start over again(day 1) now that all of the big holidays and family get togethers are behind us now. I don't mind as I really like the workout program and hate jumping around, so off to a fresh start for us.  :-)

sorry to hear the Holidays put many of the programs on hold.  I find that to be when I have the most time.  I did the Yoga today but with my schedule was only able to put in about an hour.  I figure some is better than none.  Looking forward to tomorrow so I can get another shot at the ab ripper.

I've decided that this is my year to get in amazing shape. I have one month left of P90X and I am going to hit everything hard. This is my 30th year on this earth and I want to be around for another 70.

I'm going to finish my P90X, than do the P90X+ for 90 days. After that I'm going to relax and do a more cardio based one with my wife like Slim in 6 or Turbo Jam. After that I'm going to hit Insanity, and then take it back to either Turbo Jam or Slim in 6 depending on what we do first. Then I'll go back to the P90X again.

I want to be considered "fit" by the end of the year.

Felt good today, I went over to my parents' house at lunch and pulled the starter out of my brother's car. My dad called me a few minutes ago and asked me how I did it because he can't fit under the car - and my dad has lost 50 lbs over the last 6-8 months!

That's EXACTLY what I had in mind when I got into week 3 and felt better than I had in my entire life. The plan you outlined is pretty much what my wife and I are intending to do as well. The only difference is I'm 42, LOL! I feel like if I don't do this now, while I'm in my 40's, then I'll be soft in the cage for the rest of my life. This is the year!

Funny thing is I've got my 25th high school reunion coming up this summer. It just so happens to coincide with me being in the middle of my year long P90X rampage! I think some may not recognize me, especially getting out of my 76 T/A, LOL!

Just finished up my first week.  Only problem I have is that for some reason my DVD player keeps saying that it cannot read 2 of the disks from beginning to the end.  Starts up fine but then cannot read the disks.  I'm really bummed because this is the first time any of the disks have been used and there are no scratches on them.  I guess time to try a newer DVD player.

I had the same problem. We setup a workout space in the basement. I had an old 32" Mitsubishi CRT TV and what I thought was a high quality Pioneer DVD player in storage. I set it up and some of the DVD's would play, some would get to the menu but not play and some wouldn't do anything at all. I guess the Pioneer was state of the art 8 years ago, but no longer, LOL!

I went to Walmart and picked up a new $59 Sony DVD player and it plays all the DVD's perfectly.

I'm sore but not nearly as sore as I thought I would be after week 1.  I didn't even think my abs were feeling it after the workouts, until I stretched that is.  I really find myself with way more energy and find myself always shaking my foot, doing calf raises or anything to be expending energy just to get it out.  I haven't really lost any weight yet but feel my skin tightening around my muscles so I don't really care about the overall weight.  It will come off in time (and probably quicker if I followed the diet plan).

I was offered $350 for the red one from one of my neighbors that is into transams, but I didn't want to sell it. Awesome results!!  Congrats for sticking with it.  I find the Yoga to be very boring but am sticking with the program.  I'm halfway through week 3 and haven't really lost a lot of weight but can feel the difference in my upper body.  90 days of the classic then I think I'll do the lean workout.

Congrats again Birdman!!!

I honestly have only lost about 2 lbs since I started. I went down 10lbs but slowly put it back on. I am convinced it is all muscle though, my upper body strength is fantastic now. I've actually got some muscle ridges where I'm getting some definition.

Cardio loses fat, not weighlifting. Go on the treadmill or run outside (<- way better) and you'll be a skinny guy in no time!

Not necessarily. I was running consistently about a year ago. I lost a ton of weight, but also a ton of muscle. I couldn't shake this body fat.

My best friend used to be a trainer, and another good friend is a body builder. They both say that the key to losing fat that has been with you a while is to lift weights along with cardio. Breaking down the muscle helps break loose the fat, then you burn it off with cardio.

I'm the smallest I've been since high school, and I eat the same as I always have. This P90X is awesome.

BTW, I've been doing my routine again. Ankle is feeling a lot better. Almost done with this week, two more weeks after this one!

I have been doing this type of work out since december, I was wieghing in at almost 200lbs  :-(
I am now down to 185

I work out 3 nights a week for 1.5 hrs non stop even if i'm cramping or feel as if i cannot go anymore, thats were the progress shows and the conditioning starts pay off, you gotta push through it. You will notice you will start to feel hungry all the time and thats good, your metabolism is working. I completely changed my diet, and i would recommend anyone to talk to a nutritionist to find out what is best for you. You can't work out than go eat pizza and chips, its not going to work. I eat 5-6 meals a day, just not huge meals.

I also run 2 miles 2 nights and take the other 2 nights off to recover

2 hrs before my work out I will eat a turkey sandwich on wheat bread with mustard, 1 hr before my work out i drink 8 oz of a whey & casein blend (Elite Gourmet) to get that additional protien in. You do not want to drink anything before the work out this will minimize the cramps and do not eat atleast 2 hrs before.
After the work out its VERY important to get protien in atleast a half hour after, what i do is make a tuna salad and dink a 8 oz of whey & casien again with gatorade or skim milk ( anything high in protien will work). The only time sugar is ok for you is after a hard work out and thats what gatorade has.
If i feel hungry later i mix up 8oz of 100% casien, this is a very slow acting protien that will help you feel not so hungry so your not digging around in your cupboards.

PLEASE wish me luck LOL

I still am needing to do these last two weeks. I've been having a ton of troubles with my left ankle, which has made me only able to do maybe half of a few workouts. I am not going to advance my time until I can get a full exercise in. Last night I was able to do a complete Kenpo, which finishes up that week. Hopefully I can do the next two weeks continuously so I can start the Insanity videos, provided my ankle heals up. I need to go buy a new ankle brace, I'll do that tonight.

Started week 11 two weeks ago. Only got 3 days in and had to go away on business. Then last week my wife and I got the flu really bad so we skipped last week. So we decided to just start week 11 over again today. Three more weeks and we're done with this go around. We plan to take 2-3 weeks off and then start the whole 90 day program over again.

That will get us to the end of June when we plan to take the summer off. I don't think I'll be able to completely stop working out as I've become hooked on PUMP!!! I started running a little but the weather has not cooperated. Spring's just around the corner.

Thanks for pointing out Insanity birdman. That looks very interesting! That looks like something I'd like to do after this next go around with P90X and then our little summer break. I want to start seeing some before and after pics (if you dare, LOL). I'll post up some when we finish in 3 more weeks.

Just got going on this again. I am dedicated this time...today is a yoga day so i will be getting ready to start in a few minutes. Wanted to let dinner settle a bit.

Little back story on me...I used to be very large 6' 260lbs then lost a ton of weight during college working out, running, etc...everyday. Lost a total of 80 lbs. Started lifting a lot, got up to around 185 or so. I stuck with that for many years. Bought a house, got a girlfriend, got engaged....gained 30 of it back...haha Now I am around 210-215 on any given day and I hate it.

SO....no more excuses, i am hitting this up again. Interesting thing with me is that while I got a nice belly on me and some annoying back fat - yuck - I am not without muscle. It was funny last night how arms and shoulders reminded me that last night. My arms felt like they were going to BURST!

Today I am taking it a little easier...I may do yoga, I may not. I know I am eating quite a lot better. Kinda cheated on my workout tonight...snuck into the garage and welded in some of my exhaust.

Had a few questions for you guys doing it. When did you really start to see results? What's your diet like? And do you do all the workouts - Yoga included?

Thanks and keep up the good work guys!
Dave

Dave

I really started to "see" results after the first month. I felt the results after the first week. My diet is as close to the P90X diet as I can stand. I follow it so closely that I don't feel too bad when I satisfy some craving once and awhile. A high protein diet has a way of ridding you of the craving for carbs anyway. Yes, I do all the workouts, especially yoga. Yoga truly ties all of your hard work together. Don't sell yoga short. I've also seen some lamenting the recovery week as "boring". While it might not be as dynamic as the regular strength training weeks, it's essential to success. Your body needs that time to recover so that the muscle confusion can continue at a high level again. The science behind this program is quite precise and a lot of time went into it's development, so follow it to the letter and get RIPPED!

I ve been following this thread for awhile and now I'm in too.
Started this week and am getting my but kicked. I'm only getting about 1/3 of the reps in. I havn't worked out in over a year so I'm pretty out of shape, plus it's very different than the way I have traditionally worked out. I'm 46, 6'3 and 210 right now. I will follow the program as close as I can. The diet gets kind of complicated but I'm determined to stick with it.
Thanks for keeping this thread going as I would not be doing P0X without it.

Congratulations! Don't worry about keeping up. Those guys (and gals) are lunatics! Their saying says it best; "do your best and forget the rest!" Pretty sore right about now, I'll bet? LOL!

Yoga is great. I hate that it is 1:30 long, but my back feels so good after I get through with it.

The other night I didn't have enough time to do a full P90X routine, so I went for a jog. I started out with a fast pace just to see how it would take me. I ran 3 miles, only got winded on a couple of the uphills, and easily recovered. I couldn't believe it. I am literally in the best shape of my life.

A little over a week left and I am starting the Insanity.

I've been so busy here recently I haven't had the time to dedicate the hour + to P90X, How is everyone else doing? I've been keeping in shape other ways. I'm consistently 237lbs, lowest I've been in over 10 years.

Last night I went for a run. Back a couple years ago when I was running a lot, the best I could do was 3 miles in 32 minutes. Last night I ran 3 miles in 24 minutes. Seriously.

Then I did 50 pushups and 100 ab exercises.

I can't believe I am in this good of shape. I feel so good right now.

We finished the program on Sunday! We're going to take a few weeks off and then we are going to do it again. Without exaggeration, I'm in the best shape of my life at 42! It's funny, but i didn't gain or lose a single pound. I started at 180 with 26% body fat to 180 with 17% body fat. I always knew I had abs but I couldn't see them from under the fat, LOL! I'm looking forward to going to the beach this summer, taking my shirt off and not worrying that someone will yell for people to help them roll me back in the ocean, LOL!

I hear ya man! I am actually looking forward to the beach this year, first time in forever I'll feel comfortable on the beach.

I measured out the night before last and it was actually 2.25 miles. Last night I ran 3 miles in 26 minutes.

I need to get this last bit of stomach off, so I'm going to run my tail off. I want to get up to running 6-8 miles. We'll see.

I got sick and had to take a couple of weeks off but just finished week 11.  I've gotten lots of compliments on the change.  Still not where I want to be but I've still got a couple of months before summer officially gets here.

I finished the P90X program and am pretty pleased with the results.  I'm not yet where I want to be but feel worlds better.  I can't really say I'm in the best shape of my life yet but am getting close.  The first time I did higher reps and decided to up the weight for my second round.  What I found is that I wasn't lifting nearly heavy enough because I am still doing 12-15 reps lifting 10 lbs more for pretty much every exercise.  I am also running on the non-lifting days.  First time I've seriously ran in 4 years and I'm surprised how far I can actually go.  I didn't get day 90 pics but will hopefully get some day 97 pics and then some day 180 pics now that I've made the modifications to the program.

Good luck with Insanity.  I thought about that program as well but it didn't really say that it did any weight lifting and after spending the money on weights for P90X I want to ensure that I continue to use them.

Bottom line, thanks to everyone who posted to this thread.  That is what gave me the desire to attempt and then stick with the program.

How is everyone doing with their exercising?

I was almost done with week 2 of Insanity and then got a head cold, followed by an intestinal bug. I had to take about a week and a half off, so I just restarted Insanity. Last night I just finished week 1 again.

Sucks having to start over, but not like I wouldn't be exercising now anyway!

Everything is going well birdman. Thanks for asking, LOL! My wife and I are in the third week of our second go around with P90X. After this time around we are going to take the summer off except for some weekly maintenance so that we don't go backwards too much. In the fall we plan on doing P90X plus and then Insanity next winter. I LOVE post workout soreness!!! It makes me feel alive!

I see that nobody has posted up any pics yet, including me, LOL! Let's see those fat a$$es people, LOL!

I plan on doing the P90X plus after I finish Insanity.

We'll see how it goes though, about the time I finish Insanity is about the time we'll have a newborn in the house.

This will definately tone you. I don't think you will gain a crazy amount of muscle, but your muscles will definately stand out more.

Ironically, I enjoyed having the P90X thread bumped by Wayne here before I banned him for being a stealth spammer.  Anybody still doing P90X or similar?  Interesting to see some of the guys who no longer post here.

My wife is trying to get me to do more high intensity interval stuff but I hate to get into that at my age.  Too painful, ha ha.  I took a break from P90X and have been lifting weights, but I need to shift back to something more cardio.

x2 on seeing some of the old ghosts, I have no idea what p90x is. I am overweight by no where near obese and could use a bit of a kickstart towards better health. My job is pretty physical most of the time and that helps keep me in check but I could always do more.
