This may or may not be of use, but mid-77 they decided to update and standardise the wiring colours used by Fisher in harnesses. This may help track down what a wire is based on colour, long before you see a diagram or able to track it. Time will tell.

Good info. I believe I ran across a list in the service manual that lists all of the colors and circuit types. Where exactly in the electrical section I don’t know. I tend to lose info in that book after I find it lol

For sure, I'd never really tried to ID anything this way although you already know some of the basics seemed to stay the same. It might be interesting if it helps with any of the 'what is this wire/plug' questions.
