Replacing my power steering pump and in the instructions it says put a filter in return line
Is that common practice?
Any brands or styles that are better?

Common? Doubt it. I added one. Had to make diagrams of where or forget.
Just checked, Cardone 20-FLT1 is what I have. Like an A/C orifice tube.

never heard of one on these cars and don’t see why you would need one as it’s a closed loop system. Maybe to catch possible gear debris as they wear out? For the amount these cars are driven, I wouldn’t bother

I’ve never seen one before on any car- the return line is short - and they are hard to find compared to other parts . Just checking before I move on - thanks

My lines are far longer, but no I wouldn't bother if didn't already have one.

There is a magnet inside of the pump, I guess it suppose to catch debris.

May not be a magnet and debris can be of various kinds then circulating the rest of the system after a partial failure.
